Justine's Halloween Blog Party 2014

You're all welcome to my yearly Halloween blog party! This year it's being held deep in the forest.
*
It's so dark that it's difficult to see the path. So grab a lantern on your way in. Be sure you don't lose sight of the guide who is waiting for you. She tends to disappear as soon as you look away!
Who's there?
Here's a little mood music for you as you follow the path:

The forest is so dark it's hard to tell what's lurking behind the trees!
eye contact
Especially the rustling behind that one tree over there... What could it be?

How do you like my talons? ;)
A giant owl! No, it's just me, your host. Good thing too. It would appear your guide vanished into the night. I'll show you to the door.

A link to who we're guessing made this cottage pic. Thanks Dex!

There are already some guests waiting to greet you!

Old Fashion Halloween was first to arrive as an adorable La Catrina. Check out those cool jewels around her eyes and the skull pattern on her dress. I love Day of the Dead makeup and clothing!

Next was Alicia. She's a clown, and not the funny kind! Alicia has a cool blog with makeup tutorials: The Alicia Marie Makeup Artistry Blog

Jewels dropped by as a vampire with her neighbor, The Wicked Witch!

Jason stepped in as Cap'n Crunch!

Then, to everyone's surprise, two bats flew in the window! They transformed into Vampire Ked and Vampire Miranda:

Just when we thought things couldn't get any scarier, we all heard some rustling outside the house. We looked out at the nearby graveyard to see a ghostly Patricia creeping among the tombstones!

She floated on in and joined the fun. Just when the party was really getting underway, some of us got the feeling we were being watched. Who's that in the corner of the room looking at us? It's Melody as Annabelle the doll! I could have sworn she wasn't there a minute ago...

Melody is the doll you'll see in the Annabelle movie. For those who don't know the real story of Annabelle, this is worth a read: Annabelle's Story

There are plenty of snacks at the party!

Just be careful of that skull...

There are also candy corn parfaits for everyone!

I'm actually planning to make these for Halloween night. They're made with layers of canned pineapple, mandarin oranges, and whipped cream on top. Really good!

There's plenty of great music playing at the party! This time we're kicking it old school. Reeeeaaallly old school with hits from the 1920s-1950s.

Be sure to watch the old video that goes with these songs! I think this is the perfect kind of old fashioned music to be playing in a little old house in the woods!

There's still room for more guests! Just send me a photo of yourself in costume from now or the past and I'll be happy to add you to the group! You can send your pics here: contactartgirl@gmail.com

    1. Matt ~ Thank you! I had fun thinking about the whole party in the forest theme. If you find a pic or create a costume in the next few days, I'd be happy to add you to the party!

    1. Dex ~ Haha! That can't be! I'm sure The Salem Creep has been up to something. :) You can always send me another pic of him in action!

  3. Loved the music and the picture of that little cottage in the woods. Do you happen to know who the artist was?

    Great costumes, Justine! :)

    1. Insomniac's Attic ~ Thanks! You're welcome to join in the fun if you have a costumed photo on hand! I love that music. For me, it captured the mood of walking in the woods at night. I found the art on Pinterest and when I followed the link it only led to a Tumblr page. There wasn't any credit there unfortunately. That sort of thing is frustrating. It looks like it's signed either CFW or CPW in the lower right hand corner.

    2. It might actually be an altered photo. I traced it back to Flickr (https://www.flickr.com/photos/millasplace/4476069610/in/photostream/). The user name of the person that posted it is Camilla which would fit the initials.
A lot of that user's images have the same initials. There's a similar image/photo here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/millasplace/4506272642/in/photostream/

    3. Dex ~ Hey, good detective work! Yup, the name Camilla would fit with the initials. Some of her pictures are signed "Milla's Place" so I guess she doesn't always sign consistently. Still, these are probably hers. There does seem to be a similar technique used with the other picture. They look antiqued. If I had to guess, I'd say she's using different layers in Photoshop and that maybe one of them is sepia tone. Pretty neat effect, hey? How did you manage to track down the original source? So often I see pictures on Pinterest or Tumblr and can't figure out where they originated!

    4. Google has an underused feature called Google Image Search. You can upload an image or put in the URL and it will find similar images. After checking a few links I found that Flickr page.

    5. Dex ~ Oh, I've heard about that but I've never tried it. It sounds pretty useful if the photo you're searching for is an exact match for another one that's online. I wonder how well it would work if you took your own photo and uploaded it? Sometimes I see something in nature like a bug or a plant and wonder if this kind of image search could help me identify it.

  4. Sorry I missed your party this year, lol! Just couldn't get my butt in gear to send a picture. It looked like a great time though and I'm going to come back and take a closer look at that music.

    1. Midnyte Reader ~ You know what's crazy? I was planning to write to you today and ask you to send another picture! I was looking at last year's party pics yesterday and was reminded of you and your cute costume. Hey, I'm not planning to update my blog until Halloween itself, so if you have an old costumed pic on hand, I'd be happy to add you to the party!

The music is worth listening to. The first video has some really atmospheric music that's relaxing and eerie at the same time. The second video is so cute and retro! You might recognize a few of the songs, but I bet a lot of them will be new to you. Be sure to watch the old video too! There are some fun old singers and cartoons included.

  5. I looked for my Hallowe'en costume picture from last year but I must have deleted it. I really don't like having my picture taken ... very few survive. ;)

Thanks for the info on the cottage picture, Dex! :)
