Happy Halloween! Now get ready to scream.

Happy Halloween everyone! The day we wait for all year is finally here. I hope you're all having a wonderful evening watching scary movies, eating treats, and in some cases handing out candy.

I've enjoyed reading your Halloween blog posts today! I tried to think of something to share tonight, that I haven't already shared this past year. Well, I haven't posted anything too scary yet. So, since the sun has gone down and the spirits are out... get ready to get scared! Actually, most of you watch Horror movies all the time and are no doubt too desensitized to be scared of any of this. Still, I tried! :)

First up is a scary ghost video. Just to warn you, this made me flip out so much, that I spilled coffee all over myself! I literally jumped up from the couch and the coffee shot out of my mug like a geyser. I was completely covered in it, but the couch was fine. There's your warning... If you really want to get scared, watch this full screen.

Next up is a short video taken from a gas station
security camera:

How would you like to work at that gas station after watching this footage? Even if you believe the video has been doctored, that's some scary stuff!

Now it's time to party like it's 1938! That year, people turned on their radios to listen to a Halloween special. They were soon flipping out to Orson Welles' The War of the Worlds. Believe it or not, many of the listeners thought that what they were hearing was truly happening. There was actually outrage and panic among those who believed this was a real news report! This may seem silly in today's world, but in 1938 people couldn't check the TV and internet for alien invasion updates.

If you like, you too can listen to the broadcast! Turn up your volume, and put yourself in the shoes of the people listening to what they thought was a news bulletin:

Hopefully, you got a little bit of a scare from this post.
I wish you all a wonderful Halloween evening!

  4. I like the first video very much. What a pretty ghost. I'll have to see what I can find about Miss Irene O'Hare.

That's wonderful that you posted the Orson Welles broadcast of War of the Worlds. I listened to it for the first time earlier this month. I also recommend watching "Ghostwatch." It's a BBC program from the early 90's. You can find it on youtube.

Thanks for the kudos on my page, as well. I really do appreciate them.

    Happy Halloween! :)

  6. Johnny ~ Cool! I'm glad you enjoyed the videos. Did you make it to the end of the first one?

Isn't Orson Welles great? I sometimes listen to old radio shows from the 1940s that are posted online. Orson Welles must have been very busy during that time, because he seems to voice a character on every program. Have you ever listened to "The Shadow" radio show? I think you'd enjoy that one! I'll look up Ghostwatch and let you know what I think!

No problem! Thanks for your comments as well. :) I know I owe you an email, but this past weekend has been nuts. So, just to let you know, I didn't forget!

I hope you had a great Halloween too. :)

Mantan, Kweeny, and Dex ~ Happy Halloween! I hope you all had a wonderful night celebrating! Thanks for leaving me the Halloween wishes. :)

  7. Belated blessed Samhain! That gas station video creeped me out, especially when the ghost was climbing up the wall.

  8. Mrs Munster ~ Thank you! A blessed Samhain to you too. :) I hope you had a wonderful celebration. Yeah, that video is a creepy one. The first video made me jump up screaming, and the second one made me shiver. Wouldn't you just love to work in a place where weird black shapes disappear into the ceiling? Yikes!

  9. I'm a little late, but Happy Halloween! Thanks for the videos.

  10. Jessica ~ Happy Halloween to you too! I hope you had a great holiday. :) Glad you enjoyed the videos. Hopefully, those didn't scare anyone too much!

  11. Somehow I missed this post. Just watched the videos. Really fascinating, although the pictures with the snake-like entity near the baby were pretty disturbing. I've seen the car/ghost clip on Facebook so I was prepared. That one is real heart attack material! I jumped when I first saw it, too!

Danny used that War of the Worlds soundtrack to play a prank on his Italian family when he was a teenager. They had never heard it before, and he made out that it was a real news bulletin. Because their English wasn't that great, they totally fell for it, and his grandmother was in tears. I know... he's terrible!!!!

  12. The gas station video did send a chill down my spine!

  13. Little Gothic Horrors ~ Oh, I didn't know that the scary end part had made it to Facebook! People probably had a heads up then. Yeah, it is heart attack material all right. I felt a little tinge of guilt adding that to my post, but it was Halloween night after all! I had to do a bunch of laundry after watching that, because I was so drenched in the coffee I'd thrown into the air!

Oh no! That radio program has scared a lot of people. That's interesting that Danny's relatives hadn't heard of it. Maybe it was just a big deal in America, and news of that broadcast hadn't spread to Europe. Nowadays, everyone would have heard about it on Twitter. :)

wicKED ~ Yeah! At the end of the tape, you can see part of a real person walk into the view. I bet they didn't see anything in front of them at the time. Can you imagine watching that tape later and realizing you were in the room with that thing?

  14. Your scary car/ghost was on another bloggers FB page, and seeing the word "ghost", it immediately peaked my interest, so I clicked on it. I totally fell for it. I watched it very seriously... and then jumped out of my skin!!! In fact, it is because of that video, that I watched your ghostie films so cautiously. Haha. I didn't want to get caught out again. Interestingly, when I saw the final bit, and realized what it was, I still had to brace myself for the shock... and put my coffee down!

Danny's prank happened during the 1970s when a War of the Worlds album was released. Danny's grandparents came out to Australia from Italy after the war. Danny's mother was from a small, coastal town, so they probably missed the whole story, I guess. Anyway, Danny played the album, pretending it was radio, and translated it to his grandmother. He's so mean!!!!!! Haha.

  15. Little Gothic Horrors ~ Oh, how funny! You were holding coffee too? Yeah, it's a good thing you set it down. After the initial scare, I started the video again. I wanted to pause it on just the moment the ghoul jumps out. Even in knowing what was coming and stopping the tape, I still freaked out! That thing was just nasty looking.

Well, that explains how his family hadn't heard the broadcast before. Did Danny not like his grandmother very much? Just out of curiosity, which coastal town is his family from? I might have visited that area a few years ago!

  16. Ha! "Did Danny not like his grandmother very much?" That's funny! No, no, sorry, I didn't mean to give you that impression. Actually, Danny was extremely close to his grandmother. I just quizzed him for further details, and he said it was his mother who was more upset. His grandmother was just completely confused. The radio was playing the War of the WorIds recording as a promotion for this concept album that was being released. I had to laugh because apparently Danny's mum was freaking out telling him to turn on the television news, and Danny told her the television wasn't working because the aliens had blocked the signal! Luckily, Danny's father walked into the room and quickly figured out that there was mischief afoot, and put an end to the shenanigans.

Danny's parents were both from the Istrian Peninsula area, opposite Venice. It's complicated because the area was taken over by the Communists after the war and became Yugoslavia, which is why Danny's parents left and went to Australia. Danny's mum is from Rovingno (Rovinj) which is now Croatia. It's a popular tourist resort. The history and dialect are Venetian.

  17. Oops! Just noticed a typo. That should be "Rovigno".

  18. Oh, how funny! His dad "quickly figured out that there was mischief afoot, and put an end to the shenanigans." :) Well, it's good that someone could tell it was a joke, or who knows how long that could have gone on!

How interesting! It sounds like Danny's parents made a really smart choice by moving to Australia. A lot people went through a tough time after the Communists took over their country. There is so much history to learn, as far as the countries that have changed names, and been divided. So, you and your husband must have met in Australia. I don't know why I assumed you'd met in England!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Yes, Danny was born in Australia. We met when I was 20. We both worked at the same advertising agency. We moved to London together.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Haha! Oh dear! That sounded like the world's most boring Haiku! It's early here and clearly I need coffee!!

    ReplyDelete
  21. HA! That does sound like a Haiku! It's not a boring one, though. It's just funny how that was phrased! :) Ah. Was this the same advertising agency you made a little phone call to years later? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Haha! Yes, the same advertising agency. I made the call after we had both left.

  23. The ghost clip was quite creepy! I'm sat here in bed and haven't even opened the curtains yet, I have my little lamp on beside me and that's it! I was quite creeped out! I didn't jump at the last bit though as I've seen that before but those pictures with the young child are quite weird. I'd love to hear what she has to say about it now.

I'd give anything to go out to a abandoned old house in the middle of the night and nose around in search of ghosts! I'd probably scare myself to death!

War of the Worlds is one of my favourite movies. I remember watching the old 1953 version with my dad when I was about 9 years old and I would lay in bed and think about those lamp post alien saucers and hide under my bed covers haha!!! Now they just seem to lame it's almost funny!

The most recent version with Tom Cruise is my favourite. I can watch it over and over again and still feel unsettled. I like to imagine what it would be like in their position and I can only come up with a feeling of utter terror especially on the bit where they are in that mad man's basement and the aliens come in to investigate! So creepy! I really fancy watching it again now! x

  24. Oooh, that clip was probably pretty scary to watch in the dark like that! Yeah, from what people have been telling me, that part with the thing jumping out has been making the rounds on Facebook for a while. Too bad! I thought I might scare a few people with that. I wonder what the little girl would say about the ghosts now too. It's pretty freaky stuff.

Wow, really? I wouldn't choose to stay the night in a haunted house! I have some friends who are paranormal investigators and do that sort of thing all the time. I've had ghostly experiences, some of which were scary. I don't think I really need to seek out the spirit world!

I haven't seen either the 1953 or Tom Cruise version of War of the Worlds. Yeah, sometimes the things that are so scary to us as children, seem just goofy to us as adults!
