This past Friday, we took our annual trip to the Bayview Pumpkin Pavilion. It was a beautiful night for this time of year, probably 50-something degrees. There were plenty of pumpkins out, but not that many people. So we were able to get up close and get some good pictures. The color of the lights kept changing, and I really like how this blue looks behind the glowing orange of those pumpkin faces.
When you first arrive at the park, you're greeted by these hanging jellyfish. Someone was dressed as a jellyfish and was walking around. It was pretty cool, but I didn't catch a good photo of her. I wonder what these are made of? Plastic bowls?
As you can see, we had a nearly full moon that night. That really set the atmosphere.
A closer view of the sky, with that rusty ring around the moon.
This is a view from far back. As you can see, it was pretty dark out there but there were some string lights hanging.
The giant skeleton was keeping guard over the pumpkins.
I took a number of photos of this skeleton because he looked so great. I know there are a lot of these skeletons out there now, but this one was exceptionally well-lit.
I like how someone positioned his arms over the pumpkins.
So onto those pumpkins he was protecting!
This looks sort of familiar. Is this a bunny or an alien? It looks like something I've seen in a cartoon.
The Lorax?
A Death-Head's Moth:
I've seen a number of Jack Skellington pumpkin carvings by now, but this one is pretty exceptional.
It's kind of hard to see here, but this one had gills or something like that sticking out of the sides of its head.
I'm pretty sure this big bird was new. It looked like there were glowing pieces of fabric or string woven in shapes to create it?
The zombies were out in their cemetery. There might have been a few new ones this year.
This is a close-up of the head on a fairly tall inflatable figure. He had some of those moving fire effects.
This guy was standing outside the pumpkin carving/volunteer area. The lighting was pretty dim, but I think it added something. He's kind of a Fester type.
I don't even know how tall that inflatable pumpkin stack was! The light in the top window blinked on and off. Sometimes it was totally black in there.
The girl in the window was one of the creepier decorations. I don't know if she was supposed to be a ghost or something worse.
I'll end with the creature here. You might remember him from before. Whoever made this did a great job.
I think he's pretty menacing, with the way he's lit.
At the end of the night, we saw a magic act inside the main building. It was pretty good! I'm still wondering how a few of those tricks were done. So, yeah another fun night at the Pumpkin Pavilion! Our town will be hosting some similar pumpkin carving again this year and we plan to take part. That should be coming up this week. 🎃
