My Encounter With Them!

Well, I'm exaggerating a little bit, but I saw an ant crawl across the bathroom floor today that was going on an inch long! What's further disturbing is that it was wandering around confused like it just hatched.

Meaning...

1. There are probably more of these inside the house.
2. There is probably a huge mother ant somewhere.

This reminded me of the nutty old 1950's Sci Fi movie "Them!" If you aren't familiar with this movie, here's the trailer:

  1. hehe ~ Yeah, believe it or not I've actually watched this movie start to finish a few times when it was on TV. Not so bad as these old Sci Fi things go. :)

  2. I remember seeing this film. Not a bad one at all. I love the old cheesy Sci-Fi films.

  3. Me too! I think those movies are so funny. Not sure if they're supposed to be, but usually the acting and special effects are a riot! "Them!" actually had some good actors, and that giant ant was pretty well made as these things go...

  6. Copyboy ~ I've never seen "Them!" for sale. Yeah, it is a Classic for this genre. :) Thanks so much for naming my blog the new blog of the day! I'll have to check out your blog...

Stacey ~ Yeah, I'm not sure if it was a carpenter ant or not. It was actually bigger than the carpenter ants I've seen! It wasn't aggressive, more confused than anything. Sort of wandering in a circle like it just hatched. (Ewww...)

  7. Well, Biff I'm hoping not to have any more of these! I'm assuming you mean sometimes I'll have gigantic ants wandering around the house...

  8. I've had the itch to watch B&W sci-fi/ horror films. I watched The Giant Gila Monster a couple of days ago, and surprisingly it wasn't as awful as I expected (but by no means a gem lol). I really want a pet Gila Monster >.<

  9. I've seen that one too! "By no means a gem" :) Yeah, you can say that again.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Svengoolie (He presents movies on TV like Them! and the The Giant Gila Monster) Sometimes he sings songs about the movies. When you mentioned the Gila Monster, I remembered one of my favorite Svengoolie songs! I think you'll enjoy this. :)
