I have some fresh photos to share with you guys from Farm Girl Antiques! Mom and I just visited that store today. There were a lot of Halloween antiques and decorations out. I was pretty happy about that. You never know in stores lately. It may sound crazy, but I half expect to see everything Christmas when I go out - IN MID OCTOBER! Anyway, it was still happily Halloweeny in there.
This first pic is a favorite of mine. It's now the wallpaper on my phone.
You probably remember that this store is housed in a very old building with large display windows.
This is a bit of a peek in the front windows. You might also remember that shoppers can step inside these areas to see more.
Stepping inside the store here...
The old tin ceilings and one of the antique lamps:
Now, on to the Halloween goodies. How sweet is this owl cookie jar? I like the way this is lit too.
Not that this is 100% Halloween exactly, but that candle is pretty spooky. Do you think this is Polish on the book cover? Anybody out there read Polish? Maybe the floral design was influencing me. Maybe Russian?
I'm not sure how well you can see those tiny dishes at the bottom, but they were adorable. That one with the little poison bottle on it.
A bored looking skeleton. That paper cut in the frame behind him is pretty cool.
This is another favorite photo from the day. I always love some curly metal and look at the way it is silhouetted here! I'm pleased with this one. This is a view leading into that display window.
A step back:
These were ornaments or hanging decorations. I was just saying today how I'd really like to have a Halloween tree to decorate. The thing is, I'd like my tree to be bright orange and I've never seen one like that. So it is maybe going to come down to making or painting a tree? Have any of you guys made your own tree? Or spray painted an existing white Christmas tree?
Like this tree. It looks like someone painted a white tree here.
Stepping inside that window display...
See that curly metal? It sure looks different from this side.
Gargoyle heads?
How great is this shape as a frame?
This is a view inside a different display area. It's a wider window room. This area was a lot less Halloweeny, but it still had some fun stuff inside.
Like these vintage books. I got a kick out of this one in particular. This could be scary in its way. Two giant twins. At least that's how the cover reads to me. Wow, that man looks miserable.
You might recognize that as the Red Owl from the grocery store chain, assuming you had those near you. It makes for a good Halloween decoration. Those are stickers in the bowl.
Scary pine cone critters! They look bloodthirsty.
I'm not familiar with uranium glass. These were by the chandelier decorations, for what it's worth. And there were holes in the tops of these. So I'm guessing these hang from light fixtures.
These little skulls are actually erasers. You can see the hole in one - where it would go on a pencil.
Now, here's a cool Halloween tree. I really would rather have bright orange, but as black trees go, I like it. The base adds something.
I actually have some of these foam skulls which I painted into sugar skulls years back.
I haven't seen these exact old paper wall hangings. Maybe they're a little before my time. I remember more the neon skeletons and monster heads. I don't know about that ghost's belt. Little weird.
One of those vintage, papery costumes:
I wonder what type of costume was in that package? What I like best about this photo is the curve in the wood and that chipped paint. I just really like the look of chipped paint with Halloween decorations.
Lots of fun stuff to look at here!
That cabinet there rotated, so you could see all kinds of fun little items roll around. I'm trying to remember where I've seen one of these cabinets. What used to rotate around in these? Eyeglasses? Was this something in drugstores? Someone help spark my memory here!
There's something so perfect about a clock above these skeletons. I'm reminding of an old postcard illustration. I'm sure it's a fairly common image - sort of that "your time is up" thing.
You might remember this old carriage from when it had a skeleton aboard. This would have been many years ago.
So there we have it! What do you guys think? Maybe you recognize some of these items from your own past? There were a few nostalgic things in there for me, like that Red Owl and some plastic pumpkins. I always leave this store with some decorating ideas in mind. 🎃
